1. With this piece i mastered proportions and techniques with charcoal, even though i struggled to be accurate with the charcoal. 2. I got inspiration from Ms. O'Ryan because she was doing her portrait alongside us and helping us with techniques. 3. For this piece, i began with another reference picture with my hair straightened and my face at an angle. I decided to use a different picture because its easier to draw a face straight on, but drawing curly hair was much more challenging than straight hair. 4. I would use an image with straight hair, and i would spend more time so i could add more details. 5. This was my first piece of the year, it links with my other pieces because all my other pieces depict individual body parts to show emotion whereas this is a face as a whole, so it encompasses everything i am trying to accomplish with my art.
Piece #2
1. WIth this piece, I really struggled with shading the hands to give them the illusion of movement and life. I don't think i mastered that technique yet, but i definitely improved. 2. I didn't really draw inspiration from any artist in particular. 3. This piece started as just doodles and sketches in my notebook. I continued to expand on them and decided to add the paint, then decided to cut them out and make a collage. 4. If i did this over again i think i would change the type of paint i used for this because the watercolor came off and spread when i glued the hands down. 5. This piece links with my other pieces because it is part of how i am trying to showcase all the different emotions that can be expressed with individual body parts.
Piece #3
1. WIth this piece i struggled with the manipulation of watercolors, but i think i really improved my skill with watercolors 2. I drew inspiration from many artists i have seen on social media because they use lots of watercolors and i wanted to experiment with that. 3. My piece was inspired by a tattoo design i made for my friend. It used the lungs as a centerpiece so i utilized that. 4. If i could do something over i think i would experiment with colors and techniques before starting the actual piece. 5. This piece goes with my theme of showcasing human emotions through individual body parts by conveying the control that breathing has on emotions. Emotions can be totally manipulated by breathing rhythms.
Piece #4
1. WIth this project i improved my skill in working with 3D materials. I struggled working with the nails and the manipulation of the yarn at first. 2. I got inspiration for this piece from Australian artist, Nike Savvas and her work with string. Her pieces are more abstract and i wanted to see if i could use this idea to make something realistic. 3. This piece started as a collage of paintings, but i decided i wanted to attempt to make a 3D piece. 4. If i could do this piece over again, i would use thinner sting so i could have more precise lines. I would also make a plan for the pattern of the lines. 5. The common thread of all my pieces is that they all showcase an individual part of a human body and explore the emotions and feelings that can be expressed and invoked through them.
